YASH is Here!

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Team Purple

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are FOUR contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the PURPLE TEAM–but there is also a red team, a gold team, and a blue team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

A deft exploration of the weight of grief and cost of revenge, Breeana Shields’s Bone Charmer duology reaches its spine-tingling conclusion in this high-octane fantasy-thriller.

Breeana is sharing a special writing playlist:

Deep Focus Playlist for Writing

I’ve never been able to write to music with lyrics. I find it too distracting. However, music is still an important part of my process in several ways. First, it’s incredibly helpful before I begin a new book—when I’m still daydreaming about the story and trying to find the heart of it. Or—once I’ve begun—when I’m hopelessly stuck and need to take some time to figure out what comes next. Before starting a new project, I make a playlist and listen during non-working times–while I’m driving, cooking, or doing anything else that leaves my mind free to wander. It helps channel my thoughts toward the book, and I’ve untangled many thorny plot issues with the aid of Spotify and a little downtime.

But while I’m actually drafting, I either write in silence, or listen to something inspiring without lyrics—the kind of music that can both set the mood and fade into the background so it doesn’t interfere with my concentration.

So today, instead of sharing a playlist for the book, I want to share my ultimate deep focus playlist—music I find helpful while I’m actually writing. All of these songs provided relaxing and/or inspiring background noise that helped me focus while I wrote THE BONE CHARMER duology. I hope you enjoy!

Tea & Dark Chocolate – Valentines Contest and Sale

A Spot of Tea & Dark Chocolate

Happy Valentines Day folk and a big welcome to my newsletter subscribers. As a special Valentines gift to all my subscribers (blog and newsletter) I have my little book of silliness, Tea and Dark Chocolate, on sale for just 99 cents/99p from now until Sunday.

I put together this collection of flash fiction and poetry originally for my mother and dedicated to her. My mum does read the P.A.W.S. series and I even created a character for her in Londinium (Shirley the camel), but it’s not quite her normal cup of tea! Tea and Dark Chocolate however thrilled her and made her chuckle. I hope it will do the same for you. The stories can be shared with people of all ages.

Along with the sale I’m also having a trivia contest.  Winners of the contest will pick up an audio book of Tea and Dark Chocolate narrated by the awesome English voice actress, Fiona Thraille.

So here’s what you need to do. First, pick up a copy of Tea and Dark Chocolate for just 99 cents. Take your time and enjoy the stories and poems and answer these trivia questions.

  1. What is the name of the dog that lives with Doris?
  2. What is the ogre’s name (first and last) in #Ogre troubles?
  3. In “Snow in Jerusalem” what is the name of Cecilia’s human companion?

Message the answers to me and the first 5 entrants to send me the correct answers will win a copy of the audio book.

A is for Alistair

Hi everyone – Happy April Fools Day and welcome to the first day of Blogging from A to Z. During the month of April I’ll be introducing 26 characters from the P.A.W.S. Saga, one for each letter of the alphabet.

So without further ado let me introduce you to Alistair Wolfe:

“Charmed to be here. And of course it is only fitting that I Alistair Wolfe am the first character to be featured this month. A little about me – Wolfe, of course, is not my real name, but I love the irony of my chosen title.

I have been a werewolf for a long time now. Centuries if the truth be told. It all began with a trip to Transylvania with the alchemist Quentin Frakes. There I met Roman, the oldest of all the werewolves. Most folk show fear when they meet a werewolf. I walked willingly into Roman’s den. Roman not only turned me, but he took me under his wing as my mentor. He taught me the secrets of the werewolf. And I learnt that by consuming human flesh and blood I could become incredibly strong and virtually immortal.

But there is more. Over the centuries I have developed my hypnotic magic and have used it to build my own formidable and loyal pack. Ultimately I plan to elevate werewolves to their rightful place as rulers of the world. But as we are immortal we can take our time.”

You can read more of Alistair’s story in P.A.W.S. and Tales from P.A.W.S.

Hey Diddle Diddle

DishSpoon

The sign on the door read “Mother Goose Marriage Counselling”.

Mother Goose adjusted her spectacles and gazed at the couple in front of her. It had been a long day and she was really looking forward to getting home and putting her feet up by the fire.

“So, let’s just start from the beginning,” she said, “Ms. Dish . . .”

“It all started with the Cow . . .”

“No, you’re getting it wrong again. It was the Cat I tell you, with that crazy instrument of his. If he hadn’t been playing that, the Cow never would have jumped!”

“Well, if the Cow hadn’t jumped, we wouldn’t be in this mess . . .”

“You didn’t complain at the time. You were happy to get away. You said the Little Dog was laughing at you.”

“Oh, Hey Diddle Diddle! Here we go again. Always stirring it up, aren’t you Spoon?

“Now Ms. Dish,” interjected Mother Goose, “there’s no need for that kind of language here! So what happened next, after you two eloped?”
