Today on Paws 4 Thought we are excited to welcome fantasy author, Andy Peloquin. Andy just released his newest title, Queen of the Night Guild, which is now available on Kindle.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, Andy.
I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist–words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I’m also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.
When did you first start writing?
My author career “officially” started in 2014, but I’ve been writing off and on since the age of 10 or 11. I had an elementary school teacher who loved the arts and sciences, and we had all sorts of amazing theatre productions, science fairs, and writing contests as part of our regular curriculum.
Who are your favorite authors?
The scope of Brandon Sanderson’s writings, like the Stormlight Archives, are something I envy and aim to one day emulate. Scott Lynch’s characters are more vibrant and “real” than anything I’ve read elsewhere.
What inspires you to write?
I come from an artistic family, so I have this driving urge to create passed down from both of my parents. Given that I can’t paint or draw to save my life, writing is the one outlet I have for the innate creativity bottled up inside me.
Tell us a little bit about your upcoming new releases.
I just finished releasing Queen of the Night Guild, the final book in my Queen of Thieves series. It’s an epic, breathtaking, and fast-paced ride to complete the story of Ilanna, the world’s most bad-ass thief. Now, I’m putting out Traitors’ Fate, an unofficial sequel that connects Ilanna’s story to my other character, the Hunter of Voramis, who is the protagonist of my forthcoming Hero of Darkness series (coming May 2018).
What attracts you to writing fantasy?
Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle–it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way.
What are you currently working on?
I’m trying to finish up the Hero of Darkness Books 5 and 6 before I start releasing the first book in May. I intend to release all six books within three or four months, so it’s going to take a lot of top-speed writing and editing to get it done in time.
What do you like to do to relax?
I love reading, and I’ve become a bit of a TVphile. I love watching TV and using it to learn how to craft better stories, both visually and in terms of drawn-out plot lines.
So what are your current favorite TV shows?
I LOVE the Marvel TV shows, both the Netflix shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the Punisher and the cable TV shows like Agents of SHIELD. They’re a whole lot of fun, and they have awesome action scenes. The DCTV shows (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow) are also a whole lot of fun. It’s interesting to watch the character journeys from the beginning, and it helps me to keep my characters moving forward in development arcs.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
The ability to type 350 words per minute. I could turn out SO MANY books if I had that typing speed! Or, better yet, the ability to simply put all the words from my head straight onto the page without the need to type. Now that would make for some awesome output.
