Character Inspiration: People Watching

Are you a people watcher? I am – and many of the folks I observe and the conversations I overhear end up in my stories.

YA Author Rendezvous

Character Inpiration: People Watching by Author Lauren Mayhew

Character Inspiration People Watching - Lauren Mayhew Author - YA Author RendezvousI love to people watch. I could literally watch people all day. Some of them are just so fascinating.

Have you ever been sat somewhere, and watched a person run through a town centre? Did a part of you ever wonder what they were up to? Did you then find yourself creating a scenario in your head about what it is they’re doing? If you did, then you’ve essentially created a character. This June, I’m thrilled to be part of a massive young adult scavenger hunt sponsored by the Alliance of Young Adult Authors . This is a chance to meet some new authors, grab a bunch of free books, and sign up to win a whole bunch of epic prizes!

In addition to the $500 grand prize, each author will be giving away lots of free books and cool stuff. Over on this blog I’ll be giving away a set of audio books of P.A.W.S. (narrated by Priscilla Finch) and the upcoming audio book of Argentum (narrated by the ever awesome George Sirois.)

ArgentumAudio

When the scavenger hunt begins (June 1st) all you have to do is visit each site below in order and write down the special word to reconstruct the story. You can enter any of the giveaways or offers on anybody’s site, or just grab the special word and move on. I’ll add a link soon where you can enter for the grand prize when you have the full story.

RULES

Each author will be given a special keyword, which will be bolded and all caps like this: BUTTERFLIES.

All you have to do is visit all the author’s sites in this order, write down the special keywords to discover the short story, then enter the giveaway with the completed short story HERE (link will be posted soon).

There will be one main giveaway for the main prize, but most of the participating authors will also have smaller giveaways for free books, amazon credit and author swag, so make sure you read their post carefully to see what else they’re offering while you’re on their site for the keyword.

Rerelease – Crimson Fire by Mirren Hogan

She had power at her fingertips, but the world had other ideas.

51fkiiidtgl-_sy346_

Magic was the last thing on Tabia’s mind — until she discovered she could use it. When her father hands her over to the princess of a neighbouring country to pay his debts, she may have the chance to learn how to control her new abilities.

But her new mistress’ enemies have plans of their own. Caught up in a web of divided loyalties, coercion and betrayal, Tabia can trust no one.

Can she find a way to regain her freedom and return home  — or will the struggle cost her the ultimate price?

Crimson Fire is the first book in a fantasy series by Mirren Hogan.

Feel the fire.

What the critics say:

“a brilliant page-turner of an opening volume to her series”

“keeps you engaged throughout the story and leaves you wanting more”

“I love tales of magic, and this did not disappoint.”
