About Our Kitties

By Renee Scattergood

Anakin    Padme76

We have two cats at the moment. Their names are Padme (the black and white one) and Anakin (the gray one). Can you tell I’m a Star Wars fan?

We got Padme in January of 2007 for my birthday that year. I had just left behind my two cats when I left the US, and I missed them so much I needed a new one. Originally, I wanted a male cat, but when I saw her I fell instantly in love. She went through a terror stage where she liked to hide behind things and latch onto my leg when she passed by. She never did it to anyone else, just me, and as you can see from her pics, she loves to get into things. She’s my sweet little cuddle kitty now, though.

Anakin came to us in November 2009. He was a rescue kitty that had been found abandoned with some of his siblings. Mama was nowhere around. He was fostered to some friends of ours who had another nursing mama who adopted him until he was weened. He was such a tiny, sickly kitty when we got him. Now he’s about 6 or 7 kilos (13 to 15 pounds) and huge. He tries to be the boss of the house, but he’s intimidated by Padme who is less than half his size. LOL As you can see one of his favorite pass times is lounging around.

Excerpt from Shadow Stalker: The Delohi-Saqu’s Fate (Epsiode 2) by Renee Scattergood:

Auren, look around you. Where are you right now?

In that hole you left me in, I said pushing away the hurt and anger, so that the demon wouldn’t come after me again.

I looked around and had to admit that the space seemed much too large to be the small cavern I had been in moments ago. I couldn’t hear the water either. So when I enter the shadow world, I leave the hole as well?

Are you in the hole now?

I swiveled my head, taking another glance around me. No.

Then you’ve answered your own question. I didn’t put you down there to explore the underground.

Then why am I down here? It was difficult to keep my frustration from overwhelming me again.

Isn’t it obvious?

I shrugged then realized he was likely incapable of seeing the movement. To learn about the shadow world?

And as you do you will find the way out.

Why can’t you just show me? I wished that Kado saw desperation in my expression.

It’s not something I am able to teach you. As I’ve explained before, shadow stalkers get their abilities through the shadow world, but most of it can only be learned by discovering it on your own. It is my job to guide you in the right direction.

And you couldn’t explain this before putting me in the hole because…

Because it would have scared you, and it would have been difficult for me to get you to climb down there willingly.

He had a point. It would have terrified me if I was aware of what waited for me down there, but still. Why couldn’t I just learn to get to the shadow world from your hut or something?

 Kado didn’t answer again.

I will starve to death before I figure all this out. One of the demons started snarling, so I closed my eyes and forced myself to relax.

I promise you that won’t happen. He started to fade as he turned away.

Kado, don’t leave.

You’ll figure it out. You’re a bright girl.

Shadow Stalker is a series of short novellas (episodes) that tell the story of Auren, a young shadow stalker who is being hunted by the Galvadi Empire because of their belief that she will enslave the people of the Serpent Isles.

 Episode 1: The Hidden Truth

Auren Trask’s perfectly normal life is disrupted when the Galvadi invade, and she learns a startling secret about her past. A secret that will change her life forever.

Episode 2: The Delohi-Saqu’s Fate

Auren is being targeted by the Council of Elders, and the only one who could put an end to their corruption is her father. But leaving the Dark Isle would turn Kado against her.

Episode 3: Shadows’ Betrayal

After seeing the monster she will become, Auren swears not to leave the Dark Isle. Despite that, the elders are conspiring against her. To escape their scheming, she and Kado decide to explore the Dark Isle. But worse things await them in the forests.

Episode 4: Forbidden Love

Kado and Auren survive a deadly storm, but when Auren is forbidden from pursuing love with another young shadow stalker, will it be enough to drive a wedge between her and her foster father?

Episode 5: Destiny Reconciled Part 1

Auren and Kado accept that they may not be able to avoid her leaving the Dark Isle. Now they have to prepare for that eventuality. Will the training be more than Auren can handle?

About Demon Hunt:

Demon Hunt

Auren longs for adventure and a break from her tedious life on Appolia. It’s the start of summer, and she is looking forward to her yearly camping trip with her foster father, Kado. She believes these trips are for fun, but when they arrive on Luten Isle, Kado informs her that she is a shadow stalker, and she is in training.

One morning, Auren decides to take her training into her own hands. She only means to practice seeing the veil to the shadow world, the world of the shadow people and the source of their power. Instead, she opens the veil releasing a demon, a guardian of the shadow world, into the physical world.

With the deadly beast loose, she and Kado don’t have long to hunt it down and return it to where it belongs, or many innocent people could die.
